Hi, We're Stellar Sleep
We’re on a mission to help the hundreds of millions of people in the world who have poor sleep, but can’t get the treatment they need
Story behind the mission
Why we want to bring the best type of insomnia care to anyone who needs it
Spun out of Harvard, Stellar Sleep was initially started because of our personal pain from insomnia. One of our co-founders suffered from chronic insomnia for over a year, sleeping less than 5 hours a night on average for months straight (and on some days not sleeping at all for days in a row). Another co-founder's insomnia was so bad that he would wake up at 3 or 4 am in the mornings, frustrated, anxious, and angry about not being able to fall back asleep.
“ We tried everything to treat our insomnia from cutting coffee, blocking blue light, to taking sleeping pills, but couldn’t find anything that worked. Our insomnia was turning us into literal waking zombies. Our performance at work suffered, our personal relationships suffered, our own happiness suffered. ”
After consulting sleep specialists and medical literature, we identified a glaring gap in the market - most existing insomnia care advice is catered towards individuals with mild sleeping problems. Techniques such as reducing caffeine consumption, engaging in mindfulness practices, and adopting a regular sleep schedule can work wonders for these individuals. However, for those suffering from chronic insomnia - defined as trouble sleeping at least three nights a week for over three months - these generic tips fail to address the root of the problem.
Instead, the latest sleep research shows that chronic insomnia is more often than not a manifestation of deeper unresolved psychological issues. Conditions such as unresolved anxiety, burnout, and other mental health concerns could be the real culprits behind these persistent sleep disturbances. Yet, to our surprise, we found that these crucial factors were often overlooked in mainstream insomnia treatments.
Chronic insomnia is more often than not a manifestation of deeper unresolved psychological issues
That's when we decided to chart a different path. We chose to address the root causes, delve deeper into the psychological aspects, and create a comprehensive solution that was currently missing from the market. By partnering with sleep therapists and researchers, we developed an app designed to provide evidence-based, psychological therapies for insomnia.
Our mission at Stellar Sleep is not merely to help people sleep better; it's to unravel the underlying issues that are causing their chronic insomnia. We want to enable our users to understand their sleep patterns, empower them to make the necessary changes, and ultimately, to sleep peacefully. We aim to transform insomnia care from merely symptom management to a holistic approach that fosters long-lasting results.
